P.J. Clarke’s Sidecar, NYC, September Concert Fundraiser

The September Concert Foundation, a non-profit organization that James and I have been contributing photography to for the past year or so, held another Spring fundraiser in conjunction with Jaques D’Amboise and the National Dance Institute. It was similar to last year, featuring some of the previous event’s special guests at The Sidecar at PJ Clarke’s. This year’s program was called “The Comic Book Hero, Lincoln Kirstein and the New York City Ballet”, and with a lively speaker such as Jaques, it was quite a night (especially with the comic commentary). Below are some of my favorite shots from the event.

Studio Session – Johny

Every once in a while, I come across a potential client on Twitter (what would I do without it?). Johny was one of them, and we set up a portrait session a few weeks ago. He manages a few musicians, and we will have a few more sessions down the line, but this first shoot was with the man, himself. His inspiration? P. Diddy. We got a few shots similar to what he wanted to mimic, but the different angles below turned out to be my favorite. Thanks again, James, for helping out with setup and lighting.

Can you tell I’m on a color gelling mood lately? This last image was an idea I had in my head after he told he what he was going to wear during one of our phone conversations, and it turned out just the way I wanted. Yay!

Studio Session – Raynette

Raynette, an aspiring actress, came to me for headshots under the recommendation of a previous client. It was her first professional photo shoot, and I’m glad she had a good first experience. In the interest of trying out new background colors, James and I gelled the background light for the pretty, peachy shade in one of the photos below.

I had recently had a product shoot for Maria, who recently gave birth and also happens to be the owner of Zazzie, a store for children’s shoes and clothing. French Culinary Institute, NYC – Taste Kihoku Event

A few months ago, I was referred to Felissimo through the September Concert Foundation to photograph a food demo/tasting event for one of their clients, Kihoku, which is a preserved fish brand from Japan. Their aim was to promote the product in the US. Needless to say, watching and photographing the event made me super hungry. The chefs made packaged fishies look amazing!

Studio Session – Ken Hunt

A few months ago, James and I trekked out on a rainy day for a location shoot at Steel Gym, where I photographed the owner, Ken Hunt, for an ad. That man was intimidatingly huge, but he turned out to be super sweet and very easy to work with. The space was pretty packed with equipment, though we found this one spot by the elliptical that gave us a nice background. Add in some lights and color gels in the background, and bam! Instant club scene with dramatic colors.

Studio Session – Maria the Date Coach

I met Maria the Date Coach through my day job a while back. In the past year, however, she launched her own business and since then, her date coaching work has taken off. Somewhere between her clients and hosting events, she came to me for a headshot session, and you can see the final photos currently featured throughout her website. One of my favorite parts? She has a love for rubber duckies, too.

Sudbury Inn, Bethel, ME – Paula and David Details and Prep

Last month, James and I took our car and drove up to Bethel, Maine, to shoot Paula and David’s wedding. It was a small but very sweet ceremony, and they are a super cute couple. Most of the events took place at the Sudbury Inn, and then some at Paula’s mom’s house, which was right across the street.

< blatant plug >Oh, and now would be a good time to introduce James and Christine Photography! We’ll be using that name for wedding/engagement and event-specific work. We’re working on the new website, which will hopefully be ready early 2010. < /blatant plug >

We came up the night before and met the family and guests during dinner. The next day, James and I shot some of the details and then split up for bride and groom prep shots.

I love this dress shot that James took!

Paula’s mother is such a sweet woman.

Part II of Paula and David’s wedding… After prep shots, I ran back to the inn to warn the boys, as we needed to hide Paula upstairs to get ready for the first look.

The conversation here went:
Me: Don’t look yet!
David: There’s a glass door in front of me, I can still see the reflection!
Me: Doh!

Part III of Paula and David’s wedding! Shortly after the couple portraits, all the guests started to arrive. The ceremony itself was short, simple and sweet.

Before it started, Paula was determined to wear the flower that was given to her by one of the kids. At some point we had to tape it to her hair.

And Part IV of Paula and David’s big day: The reception dinner! It was a very dim and cozy space, and the two sat right by the fireplace (aw).

Paula’s dad hardly ever laughs long enough for a photo. Go, James!

And when Paula managed to say “That was perfect” to her big brother after his toast, I almost cried.

After the dinner, we migrated downstairs to the Suds Pub, where everyone had a few beers.

And where I… couldn’t find any quarters to play the awesome two-seater Pac Man machine. The end.

New York City – Laura Mercier at Bloomingdale’s

Last month I photographed a Facebook event for the Laura Mercier located in the midtown Bloomingdale’s. Customers would receive a makeover and a complementary headshot (that’s where I come in!) that they could share with friends via social networking sites such as Facebook, which would in turn help promote the brand.

During my time there, I was often mistaken for an employee, but because of that, I eventually learned where the restrooms, perfumes and handbags were. Below is one of the last photos we took of the sweet Laura Mercier staff members that I spent the two days with.

Stony Brook, NY – Amanda Bridal Portraits

This post was rather long delayed, considering I actually finished these photos a while ago. (I actually have a lot of images I need to get up on this blog!) A few months ago, James and I dragged my friend Amanda and her wedding dress out to my old college campus and we snuck into it’s bamboo forest. Being sorely disappointed with what I remembered the spot to be, we ended up in a woodsy clearing and did some bridal portraits there with Amanda as my ever lovely subject. The natural sunlight streaming through the trees was gorgeous and I ended up ignoring my lights for a while. That, combined with Amanda’s awesome and bubbly personality led to this:

Waldorf Astoria, NYC – AIGA Gala 2009

Last month, I again assisted George Delgado for a gala event for the AIGA, hosted at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC. It was definitely one of the more “fun” events, complete with a red carpet installation and a silent auction right before the reception.

Studio Session – Cheryl and Keishorne

I had two photo shoots about a week ago with adorable couple Cheryl and Keishorne. Both had stopped by earlier in the year when I was holding photo shoots to support the NOH8 Campaign. This time around, Cheryl had her photo shoot to promote their joint project, the Be Positive Campaign. Keishorne was promoting Blue Ice Vodka as their spokesmodel. It was a fun shoot, and I believe there are a few “behind-the-scenes” videos floating around on their Be Positive blog and Facebook page.

Also there was James Cheng with his awesome lighting skills.

PS, this Thanksgiving I am thankful for inexpensive window curtains, whose uses have ranged between being pretty tablecloths (see below), dresses and backdrops.

Studio Test – Alie of Fenton Moon Media

I had a test shoot a few weeks ago with Alie, currently represented by Fenton Moon Media. She was great with her posing and giving input on ideas throughout the shoot. This was officially, my first shoot completely dedicated to beauty looks, and it was awesome. Hope to work with Fenton Moon again, as they have other girls I’d love to test with.

As usual, James Cheng worked on the setup and Jada David, who I’ve worked with several times in the past and is one of the best that I know, did the makeup and hair styling for this shoot. (I totally helped out with the hair ribbon piece lol)

Studio Session – Melanie

Melanie Fontana is another singer that I photographed recently. She had actually attended Melissa Otero’s last studio session and booked me that same day (she also filmed that shoot with her iPhone and there’s a video or two floating around on Facebook, hehe). I’m still working on the rest of her photos, but this was my absolutely favorite from the shoot. This was originally an outtake, but I loves it.
